I’ m proud to announce that two paintings of mine

YEMAYA N2, acrylic on jute 70″ x 43″ – 2009

and

OCHUN N2, acrylic on jute 70″ x 43″  – 2009

will be shown at the WORLD ART EXPO 09, organized by the WORLD ART FOUNDATION in Orange County, California from 7 to 14 June 2009, a huge event gathering 500 artists from all over the world.

Yemaya and Ochun are goddesses of Santeria, the syncretic religion practised in Cuba.

Yemaya, syncretized with the Virgin of Regla, is the queen of all the seas, while to her sister Ochun, sincretized with the Virgin Caridad del Cobre, belong all the rivers.

Yemaya’s colors are blue and white, while Ochun is dressed in yellow.

Like for all the other Orishas I’ve already realized to form my huge personal Yoruba Olympus, also these imaginary portraits are painted in acrylic on rough jute canvas to emphasize their African roots. You can see all of them in section LE OPERE of this site. Exposed for the first time in January 2005 at the Alejandro de Humboldt Museum of La Havana, my Orishas were then shown at the Thomson House of Montreal (Canada) in the October of the same year. Other personal touring exhibitions in 2007 at Villa Burba, Rho, Milan and at the Pigorini Museum in Rome. In 2008 they were guested at Primavera Palace, Terni, always in Italy.
